Feeling More Upbeat

I hadn't realised it had been so long since I wrote the blog, but February seems such a long time ago.  I had a tough couple of months at the beginning of the year and even though we are in (semi) lockdown again, I am feeling more upbeat.

I'm just back from a 24 hour trip to Dubai.  It's a long story, work related... but the short version (the one that won't get me as wound up and angry) is that I did a 'visa run'. Flew in on Friday night, back last night.  Didn't get to bed until midnight and up again at six to pick up NJ from my friend's house before she went to work, as obviously he has online school. Not till nine as it's Ramadan, but if she didn't get him up before work, he'd not have gotten up, I'm sure.

Anyway, here we are, over a year on from Covid, I'm fully vaccinated which is great, NJ isn't, because he's only fifteen. Hopefully soon the results will be positive on children being tested and he'll be allowed to be vaccinated also.

We are going to the Maldives next Wednesday so we are both pretty excited.  There's a quarantine exemption in place for the Maldives if you're vaccinated.  NJ will have to home quarantine for a week but he's prepared to do that, no biggie seeing as he's home schooling anyway!

I'm in a little dilemma country wise. Thinking of moving on.... NJ's set on Australia, he's always been obsessed with the place by some reason, although I have to admit, even though I've never been, I think it would suit us.  If it wasn't for Covid I think I would have a chance (spoken to a couple of recruiters and friends) but I think this year will be difficult.... let's see.  I'm a great believer in seeing what the universe will throw my way, everything happens for a reason and all that. I don't mean that to sound vague and wishy washy (unicorns and glitter) but I'm sure if I go with the flow and put it out there (as well as speaking to recruiters and contacts I have), something may happen!

I started this post earlier and then got waylaid by work (I was supposed to be off today) then had to do groceries (tick) and washing (ongoing).  Just had lunch and more washing to do.... It's great not having a maid in my face all day, every day, but it means I have more housework....

  2. Hi Phil,
thanks for your kind words. I'm not in the UAE, although I visit often. Qatar is a great place to live and work, as I'm sure the UAE is. Both similar but very different. Qatar is quieter. A lot of recruitment is done via LinkedIn in the Middle East so I'd suggest you update your profile and you can do great job searches on there too. I'd also recommend that you contact regional recruitment agencies such as NES Fircroft for example, but there are tonnes of them. Hope this helps?
