Happy Birthday Singapore

It's Monday 10th August. By the end of this month I will have been in nine countries in less than two months.  Mostly my own doing.  It sounds exciting.  Sometimes it is.  I'm currently in one of the most thrilling places I have been to so far in the world (and that's not that many I know) - Singapore!  My trip coincided with the 50th birthday celebrations yesterday which was an amazing day.  Singapore is pretty much like I expected it to be, but I didn't expect to like the place as much as I do.  I'm not big on hustle and bustle and I hate tourists with a passion (as most of you know); but still, I feel good here, safe.  It's so nice to see bare arms and legs, tattoos on display, people being affectionate, people being openly gay, people drinking beer in public and playing loud music.  I've gotten so used to Qatar and the restrictiveness of the country; I'd almost forgotten what the rest of the world was like.  This, coupled with friendliness, cleanliness and a feeling of being safe makes it a good place to be.

The only thing missing is someone holding my hand....Being in one of the most amazing places in the world is a lot less fun when you have no-one to share it with. No-one to get lost with, no-one to enjoy the sights and sounds with, to take photos of and with, to talk about it with.  So although it's amazing and I'm enjoying the sights, it's not the same.....I haven't seen NJ for almost two months and missing him is now crushing down on me so bad that it takes my breath away.  He would love it here and if I get the chance I'm definitely going to bring him and show him the sights.

It's easy to get around, I spent 13 hours yesterday wandering the streets, hopping on the MRT (public transport was free yesterday) and taking in all the tourist attractions; Botanic Gardens, China Town, Marina Bay, Merlion, Fountain of Wealth, Gardens by the Bay... the list goes on.  I drank a Singapore Sling at the Long Bar in Raffles (it was on my bucket list) and visited the shops on Orchard Road.  I ate street food and drank Tiger beer.

Missing someone does things to your mind and darkens your senses.  I'm starting to struggle now, and I can't wait until 23rd August.  It was the best thing to do for NJ who has 12 weeks summer holiday; he's been in the UK, Spain, Holland and now France.  He will be back with my folks on the 19th then fly back to Doha a few days later.  He is having the most amazing time, especially with my parents who are absolutely fantastic with him and I couldn't wish him a better summer period.  It's worth the misery to see his joy, but I can't wait to see my little boy again.

As for now, time to pack and shower and then check out of the hotel on Orchard Road.  I have another few hours of exploring as I don't fly back to Doha until late this evening. Photos will have to follow later as I have a date with the Coffee Bean.  The rest of the mad summer (prior to this) will come at a later date.... as predicted, my sporadicalness is prevalent in my blogability and for those who read regularly; my apologies, I will try harder going forward.
