Singapore part deux!
Tuesday evening and back to normal today; as far as my normal goes. A twelve hour day in the office to ease me back in gently and a body clock on Singapore time means I'm totally cream crackered tonight!
Yesterday, following the advice of a friend who used to live in Singapore, I moseyed on down to Fort Canning, taking in the sights, the botanical garden, the museum of Singapore and a walk in the rain through the park. I carried on my walk down to Clarke Quay, and although touristy, I can imagine it's good fun on a night with a bucket of beer and a group of friends. I continued my walk down to Boat Quay, ending the day with a pint and lunch in the Penny Black (as advised by same friend)! It was a great end to a great trip in a wonderful city and I was sad to leave last night. It was nice though to be back in my own bed.... until Saturday. Then I will depart for the UAE for three days in Dubai, two working in Abu Dhabi then a weekend spent with my good friend Gen who I have not seen since she moved, so really looking forward to that. Although I'm doing a lot of travelling and a lot of complaining, I need to get out of the house, because until NJ is back, it feels so empty.
He is having a blast in France with his dad, but due to the time difference, I have not really spoken to him much which makes it hard. Once he is back with my parents, feeding the chickens and digging the garden, it will be much easier and I'm counting the days until my little boy is back with me where he belongs.
It's a year ago since we moved to Doha. Officially we didn't move until 1 September 2014 but we spent all of August here together, camping in this empty house (I was here in July alone too, in a hotel) before returning for my brother's wedding and then back to Doha on the expat contract in September. The year has flown and been filled with many ups and downs, laughter and tears and adjusting to living in another country, another continent. For NJ, it was the first time he will emigrate, probably not the last. Depending on how things go with work, I will give it another year here. Either we will stay longer, depending on NJ's happiness, career opportunities and how life develops over the next twelve months; or we will move on. There's several countries where I think NJ and myself could be happy and safe, Singapore is now one of them.
