Back in Doha

I was in Baku this week, just for a few days.  I had hoped for some fresher air than Doha, which theoretically it was, but it was still blooming hot!  We have been having problems there on a project, so the first full day was a five hour meeting with the client, followed by another lengthy meeting with the end client the next day.  I didn't get much sleep due to my party loving neighbours in the hotel room next door (all night) and the meetings were pretty stressful as there is an investigation ongoing and fingers were being pointed.  In the end, I had to open my mouth and tell our client, in front of their client to stop pointing fingers and to work together to find a root cause and a solution to prevent this happening again. It went down better than expected, but it was a risk #speakfirstthinklater.

I don't know what it is with these egos in oil and gas, but they seem much more predominant this summer.  There's always been a high percentage of  'I am better than you'  guys in this industry, especially when it comes to women; my skin didn't thicken over the years without reason, but it is starting to pi** me off more as I get older. Maybe because their wives and kids are back in Europe escaping the heat.  They're not being fed properly, not getting their oats sown and probably bored silly and eating crap! Maybe with their families away, they have no-one to give out to.

I finally managed to speak to NJ in France.  He's been busy enjoying himself which is a good thing, the less I hear from him, the less I worry.  He's sleeping in a tent outside the bungalow, which surprises me, his braveness tends to come on in leaps and bounds when he's away from me, yes I know I have a tendency to mollycoddle, I'm not perfect.... far from it.

It's a crazy period at work, and I expect it to be so until the end of the year.  I have Nepal to look forward to next Saturday, six days of yoga, trekking and catching up with a really good friend who I don't see often enough.  Organic vegetarian and no alcohol, so I'm sure I'll return to Doha glowing with health.

I've done a lot of missing this summer, I'll be glad when some calm returns and I feel like me again.

Love to all xxxx
