Monday
For most of you reading this, Monday is the first working day of the week. In Qatar, the working week starts on Sunday.
The weekend was surreal, sad and strange. I'm here on another continent and things go on, but it doesn't stop me thinking of my broken friend in Australia every second of every day. She posted something beautiful on Facebook and I can't begin to imagine how she is feeling and suffering. The media attention is understandably high and there are pictures and video's all over the place which must make the hurt even worse, if that's possible.
I cried some, but I laughed too. I ate nice food and drank nice wine and went to the beach. I bounced on a trampoline. Things changed forever, but life carries on.
What's on my agenda for this week? I was in the office at 06.30 this morning, as it's just around the corner from my friend's house, who I have been staying with this weekend whilst her husband was away. Tonight I need to sort out stuff and start cancelling some of my subscriptions et. al. back home. Tomorrow evening I am going for my first ever manicure - YOLO (you only live once) as me and my BFF like to say; then I'm meeting a woman from Leeds for coffee who lives here in Doha and who's children go to the same school as to which NJ will be going. Wednesday and Thursday more of the same (work) with some gym and swimming thrown in afterwards; then Thursday evening, there's a girl's night round at the same woman's house. I'm hoping to get the keys to my house before the weekend so I can leave some of my stuff there and go back for a further nosey.
Eid will likely be the 28th or 29th of this month, then there's no point me staying any longer. I'm going to see our partners this morning as it's unlikely I will now get my RP before Eid but hopefully the work visa will come through at least.
NJ stayed with Uncle Paul last night, he's fab with my little niece and he's crazy about his Uncle Paul and Auntie Ailsa. I still miss him buckets, but I know he's enjoying himself and I did manage to speak and Skype with him during the last few days. He's such a beautiful person!
